Testimonials

"The cuisine and staff were excellent. We most enjoyed our visits to the market and countryside, accompanied by our tour guide. Overall, to sum up our experience: Very enjoyable-staff wonderful-food exceptional. All of it in the company of 6 people I thoroughly enjoyed, whom I would never had met before the trip."

"It was the most relaxing trip I have ever taken!. Just watched France float past, when not eating and drinking wonderful wine. All of it in the company of 6 people I thoroughly enjoyed, whom I would never had met before the trip."

"Another fabulous barge trip. The weather was not perfect but the boat and staff were. The food and wine were truly first class. We've made some wonderful new friends that I feel sure we will see again.">

"Going down the 8 locks of Fonserannes at Beziers and through the tunnel and into the Etang de Thau to Marsaillian was an experience we shall never forget. The canal itself is truly a peaceful picture postcard."

Day 1

Meeting Place is  Dijon Train Station by the Quick Restaurant outside the station at 2:30 p.m.

Passengers who have taken our Optional Paris Transfer meet in the lobby of the Hotel Regina 192 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris (telephone 01 42 60 31 10)  at 11.30 a.m.  (1130) and transfer to the Gare de Lyon for the TGV high speed train to Dijon in 1st class seating.    The  Litote air conditioned motor coach is waiting to transfer you to the Litote, moored in the Village of Vandenness en Auxois.  You are welcomed aboard with champagne, presentation of the crew and a late afternoon cruise to the hamlet of La Repe.

Day 2

Morning we have an excursion to the elegant 15th century Chateau de Commarin.  Still privately owned, the chateau is notable for its beautiful furnishings and a unique collection of Renaissance heraldic tapestries.  Afterwards we pay a visit to the medieval village of Chateauneuf en Auxois before returning to Litote for lunch.  This afternoon we cruise along the Burgundy canal to the village of Pont d’Ouche for overnight mooring.  There is pleasant walking and cycling along the towpath.

Day 3

After breakfast, we drive over the hills of the Ouche valley to the famous wine producing town of Mersault.  A visit to a private cellar has been arranged, with wine tasting and a chance to sample some of the most prestigious wines of this area.  We return to Litote in time for a delicious lunch and then begin cruising through one of the most attractive stretches of the Burgundy canal to La Bussiere.  We moor a short distance from the abbey which is well worth a visit.

Day 4

This morning is market day in Dijon, capital of Burgundy and after a guided visit of the historical center, there is time to stroll through the picturesque covered market, the largest in Burgundy.  We return to Litote and cruise to the village of Gissey sur Ouche.

Day 5

A morning cruise, passing through some delightful villages with lots of opportunities to walk or cycle along the towpaths brings us to Pont de Pany.  After lunch, an excursion to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy and also home to the fabulous 15 century Hospice and its splendid glazed tile roof, the finest example of Burgundian/Flemish architecture in existence.  We return to Litote moored in Fleurey sur Ouche.

Day 6

This morning we cruise through the small towns of Velars and Plombieres, passing alongside lake Kir before arriving into the port of Dijon, close to the heart of the city.  This afternoon, an excursion to Clos de Vougeot where wine was being produced as early as the 12c, followed by a private wine tasting.  We return to Dijon and this evening is our farewell Gala Dinner on board.

Day 7

After breakfast, transfer to the railroad station for the TGV train back to Paris.

On alternate weeks the itinerary is reversed.
Note: This is a sample itinerary: it is subject to modification in the case of unforeseen circumstances such as canal closures. The boat cruises in the opposite direction on alternate weeks.

We are constantly developing our programmes and we may modify our overnight stops and excursions without prior notice in order to assure a consistently high standard of moorings and visits.
