Golf Courses

Omaha Beach golf course

Visit

Situated only a few miles from the D-Day Landing beaches and the Normandy American War Cemetery of Colleville, Omaha Beach Golf Course was rated amongst France’s Top 50 golf courses in 2001. The international standard 27 hole course designed by architect Yves Bureau in 1986 offers three very varied nine holes, each one being technically different but all complementing each other.

The club offers three 9-hole courses. The Sea with its 6th hole overlooking the English Channel at the charming fishing port of Port en Bessin. The Pond is quite challenging and is for the more experienced golfer. The Hedgerow features shades of different green and rhododendrons.

Deauville golf course

Deceptively easy at first glance, the course provides many a challenge, even when the coastal breeze isn’t blowing too strongly!
With new bunkers standing in the way to make things awkward on the wide fairways going out, the back nine starts to get really tough on hole 12, a par 4 on which getting to the green in two is no easy matter! The 13th needs a good drive off the tee, while the 16th offers a par 5 into the wind towards an immaculate green. (5951m, par71)

Saint-Julien

Created in the conservation area of Pont l’Evêque, in the heart of the Pays d’Auge with it’s wooded and hilly countryside, the Saint-Julien Barriere Golf Course is now rated amongst Normandy’s greatest golf courses. This traditional style course is hilly in parts and winds through lush Normandy pastureland. The lower part of the course has several ponds and lakes making good water hazards. It is a difficult course (FFG slope rating of 131) and with bigger roughs in the spring and summer (like the Golf Barrière at Deauville) this course gets even more difficult.

Château de Champ de Bataille

Visit

With a FFG slope rating for this course at 137, Champ de Bataille Golf Course lays amongst the most difficult and most beautiful courses in Normandy. It’s par 72 offers a SSS of 72.2 for a total length of 5983m-6545 yards from the back tees.

The golf course winds its way through the woods of the nearby Chateau, follows the natural flow of the valleys and crosses the various lakes. The course covers 60 hectares and its layout blends with the centuries-old trees together with the undergrowth witch is overflowing with fern and huge clusters of rhododendrons.

Built in 1990, it is the work of the American architect Robin Nelson and of the French landscape gardener Thierry Huau who were both determinated to preserve the area’s natural beauty.

Etretat Golf Links

Visit

Rated amongst France’s Top 25 best courses, Etretat golf course is situated on the famous chalky cliffs of the Alabaster coast, above the famous Aval cliff that has been eroded into an arch and compared to an elephant dipping it’s trunk into the sea. This exceptional cliff top setting attracts people from all over the world. Designed in 1908 by both architects Chantepie and Fruchet, Etretat is a links course that can be dedicated to Eole, the God of wind. Etretat has a total length of 6073m-6680 yards and can be quite demanding and fearsome in the wind. It has a FFG slope rate of 129 from the back tees. From the yellow tees the FFG slope rating is 119 but can be more difficult in the wind. It is relatively flat and easy and requires varied shots. Etretat Golf Course is nearly a hundred years old and is in great condition.

Golf at Omaha Beach golf course, overlooking the famous 6th of June 1944 landing beaches and the artificial harbour of Arromanches, the course honouring those who fought for freedom in giving each hole the name of D-Day heroes.

On the famous nine hole course of La Mer, only the 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th holes avoid having problems with distances. Sheltered from the wind because they are  situated on a hill slope, these holes are very technical, narrow and much hillier than the others. Holes 5, 6 and 7 are again different, all quite long in distance but above all these holes are situated on the cliff tops facing the sea and it can get extremely windy. The signature hole is the 6th, with it’s green right on the cliff edge, it offers spectacular views over the charming fishing port of “Port-en-Bessin”. The second nine hole course «Le Bocage» is set in an apple orchard. This course blends into the natural charm of the Normandy countryside with it’s apple trees and hedges and becomes rich in colours in the spring when the rhododendrons blossom. When this course is combined with La Mer they become the official 18 hole competition course where each hole is named after a great personality of the Second World War.

L’Etang offers an American style variety of holes with lots of water. After two very flat holes, L’Etang course slopes down to the water where 4 greens converge.
