Birth of the Renaissance
Historically, it has also been a world centre in terms f art, architecture, intellectualism, and birthplace of the Renaissance.
The surrounding Tuscan countryside of Florence was the inspiration for many Florentine masterpieces and the vitality of this small city, the robustness of its cuisine, the enduring beauty of the richness of its treasures will always educate, exhilarate and dazzle those who visit.
City Highlights
The best-known site of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city known as "The Duomo" built by Filippo Brunelleschi.
At the heart of the city in Piazza della Signoria is Bartolommeo Ammanati's Fountain of Neptune, which is a masterpiece of marble sculpture at the terminus of a still functioning Roman aqueduct.
The Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), whose most striking feature is the multitude of shops built upon its edges, held up by stilts. The bridge also carried Vasari's elevated corridor linking the Uffizi to the Medici palace.
The Uffizi, one of the oldest and most famous art museums in the world begun by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 for Cosimo I de' Medici. Waiting times can be up to five hours so take one of our tours and get on the express lane.
The Bargello concentrates on sculpture, containing many priceless works of art created by such sculptors as Donatello, Giambologna, and Michelangelo.
The Accademia dell' Arte del Disegno houses the Michelangelo's David and his unfinished Slaves.
Across the Arno is beautifully Pitti Palace lavishly decorated with the Medici family's former private collection. The art gallery contained a large number of Renaissance works, including several by Raphael. Adjoining the Palace are the lovely Boboli Gardens.

Florence in One Day
Drive along the romantic Viale dei Colli up to Piazzale Michelangelo: a stop to admire the wonderful panorama of the city, one of the most beautiful in the world. The tour will proceed by coach through the old city centre.

One Day Excursions
Siena & Sam Gimignano
A beautiful excursion through the delightful hills of the Chianti countryside, with an ever-changing scenery of vineyards and olive trees.
Upon arrival in Siena, a guided tour of the old city centre: walking along the small medieval streets, admiring the splendid palaces and ending up at the Cathedral where you can visit the splendid interior including the Libreria Piccolomini and the adjacent Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana. The guided tour will conclude in the Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful in the world, where you will find the Palazzo del Comune (exterior). Free time for lunch (not included).
Departure for San Gimignano a tiny city that has remained intact through the centuries; situated on a hilltop, it is famous for its numerous towers, frescoes and other art treasures; free time to discover this fascinating city.
