Wine at Villa Montartino
The "small farm
in San Felice a Ema, with residences for Noblemen and farmers
with vineyards, fruit orchards and olive groves " was
already mentioned in a deed dated 1427.

After decades of total
neglect the estate is again producing small quantities of
superior quality wine and olive oil .
The first production
immediately rewarded the commitment of the owners, confirming
the genuine quality of the soil , with results that have
exceeded the most confident expectations.
These two products have
come to rank in top quality ranges, as emphasized both by
laboratory analyses and the appreciation of recognized sector
experts.
The Cellar has products
from Montartino cultivated and produced organically with
simple and ecological methods without using pesticides.
The products are absolutely genuine and certified by chemical
analysis. It is possible to taste all of them in the "Cantina
della Torre" or during an evening meal served on The
Loggia.
Wine Tastings
Our English wine expert and sommelier
will be glad to show you our small production, the vineyards
and finally the cellar.

History
of Villa Montartino
In the 11th century,
Montartino was a watchtower defending the Ema valley that
was the trade route for products coming from the Chianti
area to Florence. As the power of Florence grew the area
around Montartino was gradually transformed into Noblemen's
villas and farms.

At the end of the 14th century the
Montartino tower became a large building known as "Chiuso
dei Malefici". In 1427, it was described in official
documents as: "... a small farm in San Felice a Ema,
with residences for Noblemen and farmers, with vineyards,
fruit orchards and olive groves...".
During the 16th century, Montartino
obtained its currentcharacteristics through restoration
after centuries of improper use and neglect. To highlight
the historical use of the buildings, the latest restoration
emphasises the beautiful medieval gate and the imposing
ramparts that have been kept intact over the centuries.
