The first inhabitants in the region were Iberians. Later, the Romans built a citadel there, which was given the name Gerunda. The Visigoths ruled in Girona until it was conquered by the Moors. Finally, Charlemagne reconquered it in 785 and made it one of the fourteen original countships of Catalonia. Guifre I incorporated Girona to the county of Barcelona in 878. Alfonso I of Aragon declared Girona to be a city in the 11th century.
The 12th century saw a flourishing of the Jewish community of Girona, with one of the most important Kabbalistic schools in Europe. The Rabbi of Girona, Moshe ben Nahman Gerondi was appointed Great Rabbi of Catalonia. The history of the Jewish community of Girona ended in 1492, when the Catholic Kings expelled all the Jews from Spain.
Today, the Jewish ghetto or Call is one of the best preserved in Europe and is a major tourist attraction. On the north side of the old city is the Montjuic (or hill of the Jews in medieval Catalan), where an important religious cemetery was located.
Girona suffered several sieges by the French during the 17th and 18th centuries. Finally, Napoleon conquered the city in 1809, after 7 months of siege. The defensive city walls were demolished in the 19th century to allow for the expansion of the city.
Girona landmarks include Saint Mary's Cathedral and the Passeig de la Muralla.

The life and work of the Figueres-born artist are condensed into three emblematic spaces. In the Theatre-Museum, in Figueres, visitors can admire works such as Galarina, The Spectre of Sex Appeal or Leda Atomica; surrealist installations such as the Rainy Taxi or the Mae West room, and Dali's recurring obsessions such as his Empurdanese roots or the figure of Gala, his wife and muse. The second space is the House-Museum in Portlligat, outside Cadaques, a row of fishermen's huts that Dali turned into his residence and workshop; the result is a labyrinthine structure with small spaces strung together and full of split levels, where the furniture and personal objects of the artist are conserved.
The Triangle is completed by the Castle of Pubol, in the municipality of La Pera, in the Baix Emporda, which Dali bought for Gala in fulfilment of his promise to make her the queen of a castle. In addition to the collection of works of art, visitors can see Gala's private rooms, her collection of haute couture dresses, the couple's Cadillac and the crypt where Gala is buried.

Excursion to visit Girona known as the Florence of Catalonia because of its charm and magnificent architectural and artistic heritage.
To walk around old Girona is not just to stroll along the shadowy alleyways that stretch along the rightbank of the River Onyar: it is to let yourself be captivated by the traces left by the passage of time in the form of architectural and cultural remains. Girona has its origins in the lower Palaeolithic period; the Iberians, the Romans and the Arabs, and notablythe important Jewish community which lived in the city between the 9th and 15th centuries, are just some of the peoples and cultures who successively occupied it. It is no surprise, therefore, that traces of all of these civilisations fill every corner of the streets of the old nucleus of the city.
More than a thousand years of history commingle in the old town, which spreads around the Cathedral, which, with its single broad nave, was built between the 14th and 17th centuries. At the foot of the Cathedral hill extends the Call or Jewish neighbourhood, a labyrinthof streets where the Bonastruc ça Porta Study Centre is located. The Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants; the Gothic former collegiate church of Sant Feliu, which conserves the relics of St. Narcissus, the patron of the city; the archaeological walk; the city wall; the Arab Baths; the houses of the Onyar - all of these are obligatory visits for lovers of the silence born of the splendour of history.
Also we will visit Salvador Dalí's theatre-museum in Figueres, Spain’s most visited museum after the Prado.
