Montserrat is the site of a Benedictine abbey.
Montserrat is a mountain near Barcelona, in Catalonia, in Spain. It is the site of a Benedictine abbey, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth.
The name "Montserrat" literally means "jagged mountain" and is used because of the peculiar aspect of the edifice, which is visible from a great distance. It is composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. It is very popular with climbers.
The abbey can be reached by road, or by the Montserrat Rack Railway from Monistrol in the valley below, which in turn can be reached by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya train from Barcelona's Plaça d'Espanya station. From the abbey a funicular railway goes up to the top of the mountain, where there are various abandoned hovels in the cliff faces that were previously the abodes of reclusive monks.

Driving through picturesque little villages of the province, we come to the incomparable setting on the mountain of Montserrat, rising majestically to 1,235 meters. We´ll visit the Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous Verge Moreneta, a 12th century Romanesque carving.
On our way back to Barcelona we´ll make a stop at the Port (harbour), where those passengers wishing to do so may visit the Aquarium and the various restaurants, shops and cinemas in that area on their own. The bus will take the rest of the passengers to our bus terminal.

At 15:30 hrs. the Modernist tour begins, with a bus tours to see the Modernist buildings and the "Sagrada Familia" (Holy Family) Cathedral. Also a visit Güell Park and the Picasso Museum. On Sundays and Mondays the Picasso Museum is closed, so we´ll visit La Ciutadella or Santa Maria del Mar instead.
